EXPERT ASSESSMENT OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES
This procedure identifies building defects, establishes the condition of load-bearing structures and verifies their stability under the applicable loads.
The technical condition may need to be determined in various circumstances, for example:
- to assess load-bearing structures after an accident;
- when planning a major overhaul, reconstruction or upgrade.
The assessment uses the following principal methods:
- visual inspection of the facility;
- engineering-geological investigations;
- geodetic and topographic surveys;
- instrumental inspection of the principal building structures using non-destructive and destructive testing methods and specialised equipment;
- verification calculations of the load-bearing capacity of the main structural elements, including foundations, walls and floors;
- dimensional surveys of the facility as a whole or of individual elements;
- preparation of defect reports specifying the scope of repair work.
